He became involved in his profession after structuring mortgage derivative securities for major Wall Street firms. He subsequently moved to investment banking and became involved in structuring debt and equity investments.
Mr. Smith received a master's degree in economics from New York University. He is a board member of the National Association of Small Business Investment Companies and board member of several portfolio companies. In 2010, he was named as SBIC of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
